With a background of working in Outdoor Learning and in Psychotherapy, I now integrate these practices in my work.
Working both indoors and outdoors, in voluntary sector agencies and in private practice, I work with a range of people including women survivors of sexual violence, youth at risk, adults in recovery from addiction, young people in transition to adulthood, and individuals seeking personal growth, development, or a sense of well-being.
I also facilitate Wilderness Therapy Retreats for trainee psychotherapists and workshops for counsellors and therapists who are beginning to develop their practice in the outdoors.
My research interests include; exploring how people experiencing depression understand their engagement with nature as supportive; reviewing participants’ perceptions of what is therapeutically useful in outdoor experiential groups for women survivors of sexual violence; and considering how adventure and outdoor environments feature in the life-narratives and writings of psychological theorists and practitioners.
Ecopsychology informs both my practice as a therapist and the experiential activities and wilderness journeys I facilitate with young people and adults.
I live in Essex where I enjoy big skies, estuary walking and orchids, and maintain respect for nature’s abundance and vulnerability through an ongoing dialogue with a wild garden.
I am a UKCP-registered Psychotherapist, an Accredited Practitioner of the Institute for Outdoor Learning, and a qualified Mountain Leader (Summer).
